I’m talking like RIGHT NOW. You ever get them moments where life’s little stresses just catch up to you and they all seem to just collapse onto your shoulders like a dead weight? Yep, I think we all do.
I think its important that when these moments happen we can just walk away from whatever it was we were doing, and take a chill pill for a sec. If you carry on right now, it’s not going to make anything any better, in fact, you will definitely stress yourself out more and possibly say or do something that you don’t truly want to say or do.
Have a cup of tea.
This might seem very simple, too simple really. But put the kettle on, pour a brew (maybe add a biscuit if its a severe stress situation) and take that cup of tea into a completely different room, outside, or at least away from your desk. Take ten minutes with your cup of yummy Yorkshire tea and a cracking digestive, and just breath.
Go for a drive or walk.
Sometimes, sitting down is not the answer. Instead, go for a walk, a drive, a bike ride or even just stand outside for a few minutes. Sometimes its just a dose of fresh air that we need and a bit of silence. This might be tricky to come by, but try it.
Put your earphones in and listen to your favourite song.
This always cheers me up, puts me in a good mood and actually makes me feel very motivated! I like to cancel out all the other noises and just focus on the words of a song, the feeling of the music and the happiness that it brings. 3 minutes of listening to something you love can really change your mood, sometimes that’s all you need to take a breather and realise that some things are very trivial and not worth getting stressed over.
Write it down.
Whether it’s on your notes, a scrappy piece of paper, or a journal, get your feelings down on paper. Similar to talk to someone, but getting something out and off your chest can really lift a weight from your shoulders. I love to write things down because while i’m writing them, I often think of solutions and ways to turn it around. Ways to create something positive from the stressful situation!
Remember that stress is a reaction, it doesn’t define you as a person and it certainly does not benefit you, so it’s important to try and reinvent ourselves in these situations that can cause a stressful outburst. Lets try tackling our niggles and destress RIGHT NOW!
How do you de stress?
