If there is one thing that can instantly put a smile on my face when I’m in the most disgraceful mood, its a good dose of the HAPPY PLAYLIST songs. All of my favourite, cheerful songs that just make me smile (and maybe a bit of belting them out like i’m a member of the greatest showman cast). We all have shitty days- the world ain’t perfect honey, and neither are we. What can ya do but try your hardest to crack on and turn the frown upside down? Not an awful lot.
Last week I had one of them days which started with being stranded in town when a client failed to turn up and ended with being reversed into at the Morrisons carpark. Its safe to say the day went from bad to worse, however, even though I was still mid-cry on my way home, I still managed to do a little sing along to some ACE little songs that put a cheeky smile on my face.
I believe in you- Michael Buble
“I believe in starting over, I can see that your heart is true, I believe in good things coming back to you” LOVE this lyric. Firstly, the song has that mega-happy guitar sound going on. You know, the kind of song that makes you feel like you could be sat in the car while looking out of a window, as if you’ve stepped out of the final scene of a Rom Com (preferably one starring Matthew McConaughey). I suppose the message that its trying to convey is that if its meant to be, it will be. Good things will come back to you if they really are what is meant for you. Sometimes you have to put just a little bit of trust in the fates of destiny.
Forever in Blue Jeans- Neil Diamond
I love this song and thats partly because it reminds me of Ad. We can’t half belt this one out in the car, and its not a pretty sight since we are both 100% dreadful at singing. BUT the message behind this song is that you’re gonna be fine. As long as you’ve got love in your life you’re going to be happy (ALL kinds of love). Your worth isn’t based on money, fame or material items- “Money talks, but it can’t sing and dance and it can’t walk”- its what you’ve got in your heart that counts. Just me or does the song make you want buy every pair of washed blue mom jeans out there?
Rebel Beat- The Goo Goo Dolls
I think the first time I properly listened to the Goo Goo Dolls was when they performed on 90210 after the explosion in the last ever episodes. I think the same episode cracked my streak of never crying at a tv series and now im like a flippin’ baby. Thanks 90210. “Alive, alive, alive is all I want to feel. I want to be where you are, I want to be where you are”. Other than the obvious soundtrack-to-life feel to this song, I preach what it stands for. You should live in the moment, live for love and live for happiness. Take risks and chances while fully embracing life. Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass, its about learning to dance in the rain.
Brave- Sara Bareilles
Its getting inspirational now girl. Feeling like you’ve got people walking all over you, or a little scared to follow your heart and passions? Listen to this bad boy. It can be tricky to step out of your comfort zone and believe in yourself. It takes me a lot of pep talking to get me out of my little comfort zone but it feels great when you tip toe over the edge. You gotta be brave and give it a go because its definitely better to say oops than have the dreaded ‘what if’ looming over you. “Maybe theres a way out of the cage where you live, maybe one of these days you could let the light in”
Hold Up A Light For Me- Take That
My Mum loved Take That, so I remember a lot of the songs being played in our kitchen on weekends and at BBQ’s. I mean, who doesn’t love a bit of Take That? This song is particularly lovely. Although it is probably intended to be a love song, the words actually make me think of friendship and how we should always be personal cheerleaders for all our friends and family. Encouragement and wishing the best for the people you love is such an important thing. Make sure they know you’re watching and hoping everything leads to happiness for them. “You don’t have to steal the show, it was your show all along”. It’s your show and I feel mega proud of you while watching.
What are your absolute favourite HAPPY songs with lyrics that you live by.
