Dear Summer, please come back and grace us with your sunshine and loveliness…
This year, I have well and truly decided that I am a summer gal through and through. Hit me up with a sunshiney G+T, impromptu BBQ’s and the “omg-its-too-hot-top-knot” look over mountains of blankets and a DVD any day. Safe to say, I would rather be writing this with a terrible DIY iced coffee while lazing in the garden than in front of our fire. Oh and yes, the fire is indeed lit.
Lets talk about September. September has that slight ‘new year’ vibe, and maybe that’s from our school years and starting again in a brand new year. In other words, let’s get our shit together once again.
Let’s do some goal setting.
First, let’s have a think about what we want to achieve between now and the big C word (dare I say, it’s not that far away). Take a look at the year so far, how are you getting on with your previous goals? Have your goals changed since then? Do we need to work harder to reach them?
Whether they are personal goals or business goals, get some written down. Don’t dwell to hard when you reflect upon previous goals- if they’ve changed since then, embrace the change and move forward.
Top Tip: Have you tried Bullet Journaling? These little babes are amazing for keeping track of things and organising! I love to use mine for planning and separating my goals.
Take a look at your finances.
It’s easy to go wild in summer, right? We pop out for a drink here and there, there’s lots of fun days out, or maybe you’ve been on holiday. I often find that I spend more on silly little things in summer and I become slack with keeping track of my finances.
Review your budgets and think about what you have coming up over the next few months. Perhaps, it would be helpful to jot somethings down or download a budgeting app on your phone if this is something you struggle with. Every penny counts.
If you don’t have a finance plan, I recommend making yourself one! No need to make it complicated, just work out where your money is going and keep on top of it.
Top tip: Go through your subscriptions to see if there is anything you can cut back on! Maybe you stopped using one of them. Or, you could have signed up for a 7 day free trial and forgot about it!
Give yourself some love.
Take a long look at your personal care routines and asses the situation. Have you stopped looking after your skin, have you stopped taking time to dress properly, have you become slack on looking after your body though food and exercise? These are all the little things that get lost through all the summer lovin’.
Think about what happens to you in the colder months and start changing parts of your routine now to get yourself ready. Maybe it’s a wardrobe switch up, a skincare rethink or a new exercise plan. Look after your mind, body and soul and they will look after you.
Top Tip: If you aren’t keen on exercise, try going for a long mindful walk everyday to clear the mind and fuel your body with fresh air while keeping the body moving!
A good dose of deep cleaning.
You’re likely to be spending more time in the house through Autumn so make your house somewhere that feels fresh, clean and happy. Deep clean your house, room by room, and you’ll feel a huge difference. Im talking, skirting boards and all…
Switch up the furniture and soft furnishings to make sure your home is giving you great vibes. Make your home into place you want to hang out, not somewhere that makes you feel bored and trapped.
Top tip: This is very helpful if you work from home, your work attitude can be completely altered by your work environment so make sure to include your desk on the list for a deep clean.
Get away if you can.
Finally, its a great time to reconnect with your nearest and dearest. The buzz of summer will fade *tear rolls down cheek* and you’ll have a chance to spend quality time with the people closest to you.
If you can, book a wholesome weekend away with your favourite person. Spend the time enjoying nature, refreshing the soul, eating good food and being mindful. Hit the recharge button for a little while.
top tip: Use the time to finish that book you’ve been reading, listening to your list of podcasts, or catch up on magazine subscriptions. Have some ‘me time’ to refresh.
You may be a mum, wife, sister, girlfriend, best friend, and you may wear many other hats everyday. But remember you are a human being, so every once in a while, take a moment to actually BE, catch up with yourself, and refresh. Now is the perfect time.
