What should skin care do? A skin care routine should be the self use of certain products that tailor to your skin needs to keep your skin looking heathy, feeling nourished and giving you confidence to go bare faced. I can 100% say I am not there yet.
Let me tell you a little bit about my skin. My skin is relatively clear and I don’t generally struggle with spots (the occasional hormonal spot crops up from time to time). My skin is pretty sensitive and I struggle with eczema on my eye lids and around the eye area as well as my hair line and around my ears. I don’t get overly bothered by oil throughout the day, but a substantial amount of shine does appear through my T zone. Colour wise, I have quite an uneven skin tone and pale skin on my face compared to my body.
What am I using currently and how does it help?
Lets take a look at these little babes that have become permanent tenants of my Eco Beauty bag of skin LOVE.
La Roche Posey is great for sensitive skin like mine, this gives a really hydrating burst while still feeling like it is cleaning my skin thoroughly. I like to feel squeaky clean on a night before any other skincare steps! I feel as though I notice a big difference in my skin hydration when I use this cleanser, my skin doesn’t necessarily lose its dry patches but it feels plumper and softer.
How I use: Massage a small amount into the face using hands, cleanse the eyes last and rinse with warm water and cleansing cloth. I use once in the morning and once in the evening.
recommend: Currently quite new as a cleanser as I have recently changed from my trusty ASAP gentle cleanser, so far I would give it a 8/10
This product is designed to stop signs of ageing (perhaps a bit premature with the anti ageing products) but I absolutely love it for its hydrating properties. I feel as though this product evens my skin tone and gives me a very healthy glow instantly that lasts all day.
How I use: I use the pipet to apply to my forehead, cheeks and chin and massage into the skin avoiding the eye area. I use twice daily, once in the morning and once in the evening.
Recommend: 100%. I would recommend asking for a few samples at your local counter to try out first as its definitely one of the more expensive products out there.
This is another anti ageing product from Estee Lauder. Call me dramatic, but this has seriously reduced wrinkles (or lack of sleep lines) under my eyes. Its so hydrating! For me, this doesn’t irritate my eye eczema AT ALL! winner.
How I use: I use a tiny amount in the eye area on both eyes with fingers. Sometimes use once daily and sometimes twice daily.
Recommend: Definitely. Again, this is quite a pricey product so I definitely recommend trying out some samples first.
I first tried this product as a sample from a cult beauty order and I absolutely loved how it made my skin glow! To start with, I used the sample for a few days to see how it was working and decided to purchase. I love this product and notice such a glow to my skin from it; it helps to moisturise my skin.
How I use: Pipet about 3 drops onto my fingers and massage into my face from the centre outwards. I use once daily on an evening.
Recommend: I wouldn’t call this an essential for a skincare routine but personally I love it and I love the effects it gives my skin.
My moisturiser is the Whipped Cream by Drunk Elephant. I love how smooth this is without feeling like it clogs my pores. This product is designed for dry skin, so may feel too heavy for those with oil concerns!
How I use: I use one pump all over my face avoiding the eye area. I use this once daily every morning.
Recommend: Again, this is a personal favourite and I would recommend to those looking for light weight moisturiser that still feels nourishing however perhaps not for the oily skin types.
This is another one of my favourite eye products, I like to use this for a more lightweight eye cream when my eye area is feeling well moisturised and fresh. It provides a silky finish and smooth feel to the under eye area which I particularly love. I love products that include ingredients that are beneficial for certain areas of the skin.
How I use: Half a pump on the under eye areas using fingers. Use occasionally as eye cream.
Recommend: Yes! Great for those who need a little TLC in the eye area whether its ageing, pollen or tired eyes!
This little babe is my go to product when my skin is flaring up with eczema, it soothes my skin and gives a thick barrier to let your skin relax and absorb the moisture.
How I use: Lather on frequently when struggling with eczema.
Recommend: Yes for those with dry skin, not for those with oily skin! If you are struggling with eczema visit your doctor and they will help you with your skin care journey.
A little note..
I have been using these products for a long time and they really work for my skin, my particular skin concerns mean that I’ve learnt what suits me. Believe me, there have been many failures and wastes of money along the way. BUT, I’ve finally got my skin care routine down to a T and it is working great right now.
Cheeky tip: We’ve heard it a million times before BUT drinking lots of water and getting a good sleep will improve your skin more than anything else!
